While I’m editing Body of Water (BoW), I like to switch to a couple of other projects to keep my mind busy. One of those projects is Spirit of Water, the sequel to BoW.
A sequel to BoW wasn’t originally planned – I was deeply into planning Husk at the time – but I was invited onto BBC Essex to talk about National Novel Writing Month (NaNo). Naturally I was thinking about my first year of NaNo and then the idea for Spirit of Water popped into my head.
Spirit of Water is set in London and has a darker slant on what love and regret can drive a man to do. It still retains all the paranormal / fantasy elements of BoW but in an urban setting.
I decided early on in the first draft that you don’t need to be on a remote island to feel cut off. You can still be in a room full of people and feel utterly alone.
So I got to thinking about Shaun from BoW, and what might have happened to him after he exited Leven’s life, and the story grew from there…
