Weak-kneed Wednesdays: Smith

As a rule, much younger guys don’t really do it for me. Of my three long-term relationships, the one with the biggest age gap lasted the shortest (when we met, he was 25 and I was 33).

So, I was left a little puzzled after watching Kaboom. It wasn’t the by-the-numbers attractiveness of Thor or Hunter that caught my eye but the lead character, Smith. I mean, he’s 19!

I think it would be too easy to write Smith off as just another emo boy. He’s certainly facing some emotional challenges but he’s remarkably strong and resourceful when weird and wonderful things start to happen around him. He’s not constantly whining about how complicated his life is. He still gets out there and lives life and he’sĀ cultivated a close friendship with an equally spirited girl ( and you just know they couldĀ figure out life together).

Here’s a scene that stood out for me because it plays to the moment I love the most – when you’re alone, it’s quiet but you whisper anyway, and you can’t quite see each other. The closer you get, the more you can feel the warmth from their face on yours and feel their breath on your lips.

For me, that moment can never last too long.
